Natural Colourings

Natural colourings are pigments derived from plant, animal or mineral sources used to give dog food an appealing appearance. Common examples include annatto, beetroot extract, paprika and caramel. While they are preferable to artificial dyes, it is worth noting that dogs are far less sensitive to colour than humans — the visual appeal of dog food colour is primarily aimed at owners rather than dogs. Natural colourings are generally considered safe, though some dogs may be sensitive to specific sources.
