Potato

Potato is a starchy vegetable used in grain-free dog foods as an alternative carbohydrate source to cereals. It provides digestible starch for energy along with some potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin C. Potato is generally well tolerated by most dogs and is a common ingredient in recipes designed for dogs with grain sensitivities. However, concerns have been raised about the potential link between legume- and potato-heavy grain-free diets and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs, which is an area of ongoing research.
