Garlic

Poor Ingredient

Garlic belongs to the Allium family and is toxic to dogs. It contains thiosulphate compounds that damage red blood cells, potentially causing haemolytic anaemia. Garlic is significantly more potent than onion and toxicity can result from both a single large dose or repeated small doses over time. Despite some claims that small amounts of garlic offer health benefits, veterinary consensus holds that no level is safe for dogs, and its inclusion in dog food is considered unacceptable.
