Sugars
Poor IngredientSugars — including sucrose, glucose and syrup — are sometimes added to dog food as palatability enhancers. Dogs do have a limited ability to taste sweetness, but added sugars provide no nutritional benefit and contribute to unnecessary calorie intake. Regular consumption of sugary foods can contribute to weight gain, dental decay and potentially insulin resistance. The presence of added sugars in a dog food is generally regarded as a sign of poor formulation.
