Animal Fat

Animal fat is a generic term for rendered fat from unspecified animal sources. Because the origin is not declared, the quality and composition can vary considerably between batches and manufacturers. It is used primarily to increase palatability and energy density in dog food. The lack of transparency around its source makes it one of the less desirable fat ingredients — named fats such as chicken fat or salmon oil are always preferable.
